WORK EXPERIENCE - General Information
Most learners want to know if they have to do work experience, the easy way is to ask yourself the following
- Am I on a Study Programme?
- Am I under 19 at the start of the September term?
If you answered YES to both of these questions then you will need to go out on Work Experience. It is part of your study programme and just as important as your vocational course and your maths and English courses(if required).
Work Experience is a fantastic way to get that much needed experience on your CV, it enhances your employability skills and for many of you will be the first time in a working environment.
Many placements turn into part-time/full-time jobs or apprenticeships so a wonderful opportunity for you to shine and show employers what you can do!
You will need to go out on a placement every year you are at the college and you cannot use any work experience you used at school.
Work Experience is usually unpaid however some placements contribute to expenses or provide a lunch etc.
If you have a part-time job this does not count as work experience however do talk to one of the work placement coordinators who may be able to work out a solution for you.
If you have any queries/concerns please do get in contact with one of the team.
