The Students' Union is a group of Havering College students who are elected by other students from the College to represent them to College Governors, College Management, local and national Government and other relevant authorities.
Becoming a Students’ Union Officer within the College can be a life changing experience. During your time as an officer, you will develop and grow as a person as the Students’ Union offers extensive opportunities to gain new skills, meet with students and staff and become an influential and respected student within the college. Here is a list of just a few reasons why becoming a Students’ Union Officer could benefit you;
Represent all students of Havering College by being a go between for students and staff.
Visit other Colleges and Universities to find out what is happening within the Student Movement.
Go to conferences all over the UK (all expenses paid, including travel food and accommodation) to discuss issues which affect students and to network with students across the UK.
Have the opportunity to set up and run trips and events of your choice within the College including award ceremonies, parties, charity events and day trips out for students.
Go on trips and residential as a Union which Include training residential, annual trip to Top Golf in Chigwell, and meals out (all expenses paid including travel food and accommodation).
Build new transferrable skills through our fun and engaging training, which will help you grow, develop and will give you an advantage when applying for jobs or universities.
Adds value to your CV and you can get a job reference.
Get a free NUS card which will lower the cost of all the essentials you will need whilst studying and give you discounts across the UK as a student.
Have access you your own Students’ Union offices which you can work and study from at Ardleigh Green and Quarles.
Get certificates for any training you undertake and one for your time as an officer on the Students, Union.
Get the opportunity to manage the Students’ Union Budget of over £10,000 per year and make decisions on how it should be spent.
Support the welfare of students by being able to put things in place to ensure the College is a friendly, respectful and safe place for all to learn.
Meet with College Senior Leadership Team, Governors and other College Committees to ensure that students are being put first in every decision the College makes.
If you would like to put yourself forward for election onto the Havering College Students' Union please speak to Student Services on your campus. Elections will be held twice during the academic year: October 2017 and May 2018.
